11 PNB officers arrested over possible links with drug dealers

July 03, 2020

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is conducting interrogations on 11 Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers who are said to have maintained close association with drug racketeers.

These officers were identified following further investigations on four PNB officers including one Sub Inspector (SI), two Sergeants and one Constable arrested for maintaining links with drug traffickers.

One Inspector of Police (IP) and one Sub Inspector (SI) of the PNB, who had allegedly sold a consignment of drugs to a drug dealer, are among the 11 suspects who were arrested, the Police said.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 02), granted permission to CID to detain and interrogate the alleged officers attached to the PNB, arrested on drug trafficking charges.

The court issued detention orders allowing the CID to detain the suspects until July 08 and to interrogate them over the charges.
