Over 2,000 suspects arrested since July 04
July 06, 2020Around 2,120 suspects including 595 warranted persons, who were evading the law, were arrested for possessing drugs, illegal weapons and illicit liquor etc.
The arrests were made during the special anti-crime operations conducted by the Police since July 04 midnight to July 05 mid-night.
The Police has taken 648 g of heroin, 5,068 liters of illicit liquor, 1.281 kg of cannabis and 152 g of ice (crystal methamphetamine) into custody during the special operation.
On June 16, Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne during a press briefing assured to form a society free of drugs menace, underworld activities, organized crimes and extortion for all communities to live in a just and safe country in the future.
