Information Dept DG Kaluwewa requests IGP an impartial inquiry
July 11, 2020The Director-General of Government Information Nalaka Kaluwewa, lodging a complaint to the acting Inspector General of Police, has requested to conduct a full and an impartial inquiry into alleged manhandling of a journalist outside the courts, yesterday.
In a complaint sent to the IGP Chandana Wicremaratne, he has stated that the photographer from the Mawbima newspaper Akila Jayawardena was manhandled by Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa outside the courts yesterday.
Kaluwewa in his letter has said that all media had reported the incident in which the Rangajeewa was seen obstructing and harassing Jayawardena on his way to attend a court hearing at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex yesterday,
He has also said the photographer was an official government identity cardholder issued by the Department of Government Information.
Kaluwewa stated that the media persons who have identity cards issued by the Government Information Department have the opportunity to perform their duties without any inherence.
