New Navy Chief Calls on Defence Secretary

Newly appointed Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna, in keeping with the tradition, called on Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne at the Ministry, today (July 16).

Vice Admiral Ulugetenna was appointed as the 24th SLN Commander on Wednesday, following the retirement of Admiral Piyal De Silva as the Navy Chief.

Mementos have been exchanged between the Defence Secretary and SLN Commander to mark the occasion.

Vice Admiral Ulugetenne who was enlisted in the Sri Lanka Navy in 1985, as an Officer Cadet in the 13th intake had undergone basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA).

He has also been awarded with Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) twice for gallantry and Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV) and Uttama Seva Padakkama(USP) for meritorious service.

Prior to being appointed as the Navy Chief, Vice Admiral Ulugetenna had been serving as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy since May 08, 2019.
