Met Dept issues red alert warnings on heavy showers
July 20, 2020Prevailing heavy showers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces are expected to continue during next 24-hours due to low level atmospheric disturbances experiencing in Sri Lanka, the Meteorology Department issuing a red alert weather warning a short while ago said, today (20).
Weather warning also alerts on very heavy rainfalls above 150 mm that could be expected in several parts of the island.
Meanwhile, issuing a marine weather forecast, the Meteorology Department also warns the naval and fishing communities and residents in coastal areas to be vigilant since the coast and seas off Kaluthara to Potuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambanthota, may experience strong wave upto 2 to 2.5 meters high.
