Police continue to bust underworld crime rackets; four arrested during the last 48-hours

With Police intensifying anti-crime and anti-narcotic operations island-wide, four key suspects wanted for crimes committed, including drug peddling, have been taken to custody during the past 48-hours ending on Monday midnight (July 20).   

The suspects identified as Chaminda Kumara,  Hettiarachchige Jagath Kushan Dilruk and two others nicknamed ‘Roda’ and ‘Naliya’ were arrested during separate sting operations, the Police said.

According to the Police, Chaminda Kumara, 42, is said to be an associate of the notorious underworld criminal ‘Samayan’ and had been arrested by the Nawagamuwa Police on Sunday.

At the time of the arrest, the suspect was in possession of heroin, the Police added.

Hettiarachchige Jagath Kushan Dilruk is wanted for many crimes including the murder of a person in 2015. The suspect was also arrested by the Nawagamuwa Police whilst hiding in Ranala.

In addition, the Mirihana Anti-Corruption Division had arrested ‘Roda’ and ‘Naliya’, yesterday, who were identified to be followers of ‘Podi Thilina’ who runs an ‘Ez-cash’ drug racket through the prison.

The Police said further investigations are underway.
