Latest technology to enhance baggage screening at Katunayake and Ratmalana airports

Baggage screening facilities available at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and at Ratmalana airport are to be upgraded and enhanced with the inclusion of state of the art technology, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) said.

This was revealed during an inspection visit made by the Chairman Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited (AASL), Maj. Gen. (Retd.) G. A. Chandrasiri, over the newly procured X-ray machines worth of USD 331,220(Rs. 61million).

These new X-Ray machines are to replaced with the already out-of-date baggage screening equipment which have exceeded a service period of over 19 years.

The latest inclusion of these X-ray equipment was made in compliance with the  European Civil Aviation Conference(ECAC),  Department for Transport UK  (DFT UK) and Transport Security Administration USA (TSA) and national security standards.

AASL Vice-Chairman Rajeewasiri Sooriyaarachchi, CAASL Deputy Director- General, Aviation and Security Regulations P. A. Jayakantha and senior officials of AASL were also present at the occasion.
