July 21, 2020

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) partnering with Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation launched a cashew cultivation campaign at the Kankasanthuri harbor and planted 100 saplings in its first phase at the Northern Naval Command.

The campaign, which was launched to plant 560 cashew saplings, was commenced under the directives of Navy’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera to preserve marine bio-diversity and the regional greenery under this project.

Over a half of the cashew cultivation in Sri Lanka has confined to the dry zone and it is becoming one of the important cash crops for farmers in the country forming a great potential for increased production for both local and foreign markets.

Cashew is a crop that requires minimum care in comparison to other commercial crops.

Land Operation Staff of the Northern Naval Command has been tasked the management of the cashew saplings. (Photos Attached)
