Police to seek Interpol support to bring wanted underworld criminals
July 23, 2020The Police Department will seek support from Interpol to bring 13 notorious underworld criminals, taking refuge in foreign countries and evading arrest, back to Sri Lanka, soon.
The Police said OICs of police stations islandwide are to process details of these underworld criminals within a month to lodge red notices, according to Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.
At a special news conference held at the Police Headquarters recently he also announced establishing a new police division - Police Illegal Assets Investigations Division- under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) soon to investigate illegal earnings to facilitate to confiscate immovable and movable property earned through various rackets and narcotics under the Money Laundering Act.
