Police set up hotlines, fax and emails to get information from public

Sri Lanka Police have set up two new hotlines, “1997” and “1917” with two email addresses and a fax number for the general public to provide information from today (28).  

Hotline ‘1997’ and 1997@Police.lk has been set-up under the purview of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Criminal Investigations Department to gather information, probe and freeze such assets associated with dangerous drugs, incidents posing threat to national security, disturbance to public peace, large-scale corruptions, intellectual property matters and organized criminal activities.  

Additionally, Police have established ‘1917’ and 1917@Police.lk for the public to provide information pertaining to illegitimate earnings, such bank accounts and assets such as vehicles and lands acquired over illegal drug peddling, rackets and organized crimes.  

Those who are willing to submit written material, evidence and such information can use internal fax number 011–2440440 or post to reach, Staff DIG to Inspector General of Police, Police Headquarters, Colombo 1.  

The Police also said, the confidentiality of the complaints would be assured.
