March 01, 2019

A group of Army personnel were provided with beehive boxes under the Retired Service Personnel's Welfare Project (Agriculture) of the Ministry of Defence, on 25th February. These beehive boxes were distributed among retired and potential woman retirees in the 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC) under an initiative taken by the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).

This programme intends to uplift the living standards of service personnel who retire from service, by way of augmenting their income through agro-based self-employment ventures. These men and women return to the society after years of serving the nation with a wealth of knowledge and experience which can be further utilized towards fulfilling national development goals.

Secretary to State Ministry of Defence, Mr Sunil Samaraweera graced the brief handing over ceremony held at the 5 (V) SLAWC Battalion Headquarters in Dalukana. Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, Director (Technology), Ministry of Primary Industries & Social Empowerment, Mr Tissa Bandara and senior Army officers were also present at the occasion.
