Cancer treatment facility to be built with Naval assistance

A new Cancer Treatment Centre is to be built at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle with labour expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy. According to Navy media, the foundation laying ceremony of the proposed Palliative Care Centre was held on Monday (15 July).

The new medical facility is to be built with financial provisions provided by the Sri Lanka Cancer Association and donors with the Sri Lanka Navy providing its expertise and labour. Once complete the new medical facility will provide care for cancer patients from around the island.

Members of the Maha Sangha, District Secretary for Galle, Mr. Somarathna Vidanapathirana, Commander, Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul, Director, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Dr. G. Wijesooriya, senior state officials, representatives of the Sri Lanka Cancer Association and members of the hospital staff were present at foundation laying ceremony, yesterday.
