President's Colour awarded to two Air Force squadrons

The No 7 Squadron and No 8 Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force were presented with the President's Colour by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena during a ceremony held at the SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, on Saturday (02 March).

Arriving at the venue the President was received by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy. Subsequently the President awarded the President's Colour to both squadrons according to time held traditions. The President was also presented a Guard of Honour by the Air Force personnel during the ceremony, states Air Force media.

The President's Colour is the highest honor a military establishment is accorded in recognition of its invaluable services and sacrifices made towards the defence of the country.

President, Maithripala Sirisena also declared open the Sri Lanka Air Force Anniversary Air Tattoo 2019, and the educational exhibition at the SLAF Base in Hingurakgoda on the same day. (02 March). The Air Tattoo is being held in view of the 68th anniversary of the SLAF.

The Air Tattoo will go on till the 6th. Gates will be open by 10.30 am and entrance is free.

Chief of Defence of Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, senior SLAF officers and a large number of officers, other ranks personnel, their families and members of the general public were present at the occasion.
