Met Dept. alerts naval and fishing communities

Issuing a marine weather forecast at 5.30 a.m. today (Aug 5), the Meteorology Department has  requested the naval and fishing communities and those who are living along coastal areas, from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle to be vigilant on rough seas.

It stated that  rough seas, tough waves and wind speed (60 to 65 kmph) could be experienced during next 24- hours.

Weather forecast also alerts on high waves (2 to 2.5m) in above sea areas and seas from Trincomalee to Potuvil via Kankasanturai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Coastal inundation may take place along the coast from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle following high waves, the Met Department said.

The Department has requested people living in coastal areas to be vigilant on the prevailing weather conditions.

Fairly heavy rainfalls about 75 mm are likely in some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and Galle and Matara Districts, the report stated.
