SLN introduces a floating damage control simulator
August 07, 2020Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) introduced a newly designed damage control platform to the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla, Trincomalee for their training purposes during a brief ceremony held at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) recently (5 Aug).
Demonstration of a damage control, causality evacuation and fire-fighting exercises were also conducted during the session.
Novel facility will be operated for realistic damage control and fire-fighting training sessions for naval personnel, since the naval damage control capability always preserves the integrity, stability and maneuverability of the fleet as part of their seaworthiness and readiness.
Commodore Superintendent Dockyard Engineering Department, ENC had conducted the designing and transformation work using a craft discarded from its operational duties.
Realistic naval training settings of this nature to conduct accurate damage control exercises are the key to develop these skills and to produce optimal readiness of the sailors.
Damages at sea must be quickly attended, contained and repaired for fighting units to ensure floating and moving to fulfil their missions.
Commander Eastern Naval Areas Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera and a large gathering of senior officials of the ENC were present at the event.
