Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne reappointed as Defence Secretary
August 13, 2020Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne has been reappointed as the Secretary to the Defence Ministry by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, today.
President Rajapaksa, who is the Defence Minister in the new Cabinet, has appointed secretaries to 25 ministries today.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne, who was a battled-hardened soldier of the Sri Lanka Army, had served as the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 53 Division, Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Master General Ordnance of the Army Headquarters.
He had also served as the Deputy Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil.
After his retirement from the SLA in September 2016, Maj. Gen. Gunaratne authored several books including his memoir ‘Road to Nandikadal’ based on his 35- years long experience in the Army including the war against the LTTE.
Presently, he is the Chairman of the 13-member Presidential Task Force (PTF) to build a Secure Country, Disciplined, Virtuous and Lawful Society.
In addition, Maj. Gen. Gunaratne is also the Chairman of the 11-member PTF for Archaeological Heritage Management in the Eastern Province.
