Police nabs Rs. 200 million worth ‘MDMA’ drug haul from Ambalangoda

Police arrested a person with 12 kilos of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) worth over Rs. 200 million stored in Patabandimulla area, Ambalangoda during a special operation, last evening (15).

Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said it was the first time that  such a large quantity of ‘MDMA’ was seized in the country.

‘MDMA’ is an illegal drug also known as ecstasy or molly that acts as stimulant producing an energizing effect and distortions to the person who consume the drug.

He said MDMA was extensively used especially among youth who go to night clubs.

The 33-year-old suspect, a resident, in Wijerama Mawatha in Ambalangoda, will be produced before the Magistrate Court Ambalangoda, he said.
