More community welfare initiatives by Army benefit masses in North and East

Continuing their community service projects further, Sri Lanka Army troops had once again lent their expertise and labour to build a house for a deserving family in the Eastern region. The house in Thambalagamuwa was built by troop with financial assistance provided by Ven. Thalagala Sumanarathana Nayaka Thero, incumbent at Thalagala International Buddhist Meditation Centre in Horana.

The newly built house was handed over to the beneficiary family during a ceremony graced by General Officer Commanding, 22 Division Major General W.A.N.M Weerasingha on Friday (08).

Meanwhile, a large number of people with visual impairments in Kilinochchi were benefitted under a programme launched by Army troops of 57 Division, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) to provide them with spectacles, free of charge. The programme held in Dharmapuram on Friday (08) saw 570 spectacles being distributed among the visually impaired in the region. The Maha Karuna Buddhist Society, Malaysia and Vidya Sivaloganathan Foundation, Sri Lanka had provided sponsorship for the spectacles.

People with visual impairments living in Visuamadu, Thottiadi, Chundikulam, Theravil, Punnaravi, Mailwaanapuram, Bharathiepuram and Nethaliaru were benefited under this programme.

General Officer Commanding, 57 Division Major General Vijitha Ravipriya and representatives of the donors were also present at the distribution ceremony.
