Police nabs a turmeric smuggler
August 30, 2020The Police have nabbed a suspect while transporting 862 kilograms of turmeric in a light truck from Pesalai to Talaimannar, yesterday (Aug 29).
The suspect aged 29-year-old is a resident of Nillayadi, Puttalam have produced before Magistrate Court, Mannar today (30 Aug) for smuggling turmeric from overseas and transporting.
Recently Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) foiled several smuggling attempts amounting to 8,360 kilos of turmeric in sea and land operations in the Western seas.
According to the recent SLN and Police operations, mostly the Western parts of the island including seas are more prone to turmeric smuggling.
