President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, today, requested people not to invite him for private functions like weddings, prize-givings and other parties as he wanted to fully devote his time to fulfill national responsibilities.

A statement issued by the Presidential Media Division (PMD) said the President was keen to spend his time to expedite development projects for the betterment of the people and to resolve issues faced by them at the grassroots level.

“Since he is keen to spend his time to fulfill national responsibilities, please refrain from inviting the President for functions such as prize-givings, weddings and other parties since the President is not expecting to take part in these functions,” the statement stated.

It further stated many people invited the President for these functions, to be a part of special days of their lives, due to the respect and affection they have towards him.

“The President appreciates the affiliation that people have on him but the President is determined to commit every hour he gets, when not engaged in official duties, for the betterment of the people,” the PMD said.
