SLN rescues injured and the Captain of the Oil Tanker on fire

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) rescued the third engineer who was critically injured from the oil tanker currently on fire at the seas off Sangaman Kanda and brought ashore for further treatments, Navy Spokesman Capt. Indika De Silva said.

He said ship's Captain including another crew member was also rescued during the operation.

The remaining ship’s crew was rescued and they were shifted to a vessel passing by while vacating the hazardous tanker, he added.

Recently arrived two Russian warships were also departed the Hambantota port short while ago to join the SLN fleet to control the situation.

Air Force Spokesperson Group Capt. Dushan Wijesinghe said in-addition to MI-17 Helicopter, another Bambi Bucket operated Bell 212 Helicopter was also deployed to douse the fire.
