DNA tests confirm identities of suicide bombers

The DNA test reports of the Government Analyst's Department have confirmed on Tuesday evening (21) the identities of the Easter Sunday bombers, revealed the Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara during a press briefing held at the Media Centre in Kollupitiya last evening (21).

The Government Analyst's Department has confirmed that the DNA samples of the two brothers, Mohamed Ibrahim Ilham Ahamed and Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaf Ahamed who blew themselves up at the Shangri-La hotel and the Cinnamon Grand hotel respectively have matched with that of their father, Ibrahim.

The Katuwapitya church bomber Achchi Mohammadu Mohammadu Hasthun's DNA samples have matched with that of his parents' while the Kochchikade St. Anthony's church bomber Alaudeen Ahamed Muath's DNA sample has matched with that of his parents. Abdul Latheef Jameel Mohamed, the suicide bomber at the Tropical Inn, Dehiwala has been confirmed with that of his wife and children.

The DNA samples of the Batticaloa church bomber Mohamed Nazar Mohamed Asath has been confirmed with that of his mother and the DNA samples of Mohamed Assam Mohamed Mubarak, the suicide bomber at the Kingsbury hotel has been matched with that of his wife and child. The two explosions at the house at Mahavila Gardens in Dematagoda has been carried out by Mohamed Fathima Jifry, the wife of Shangri-La hotel bomber Mohamed Ibrahim Ilham Ahamed. The three children killed in the incident have also been confirmed as those of Ilham and Fathima Jifry.

The Government Analyst's Department report has also confirmed that Mohamed Casim Mohamed Zahran was one of the two suicide bombers at the Shangri- La hotel and that his DNA samples have matched with those of his wife and child, said the Police Spokesman.
