Army-produced new uni-buffels are on trials in Mali
September 25, 2020The Sri Lanka Army-produced 9 modernized Unibuffels, one new recovery vehicle and 3 containers sent to Mali on United Nations (UN) Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) are currently undergoing trials of acclimatization in the tough terrains in Mali.
The Army said the Uni-buffels produced by Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (SLEME) troops are the improved version of Unicorns.
Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva recently handed over the new fleet for sea passage to dispatch to Sri Lankan UN Peacekeepers serving in remote areas of West Africa.
Presently, 243 Sri Lankan UN Peacekeepers, including 20 Officers and 223 Other Ranks together with 65 vehicles are serving in Mali.
The new fleet would complement and further assist to strengthen their existing fleet for UN security operations.
