Met Dept alerts on heavy rains
October 13, 2020The Meteorology Department stated that heavy rainfalls exceeding 100 mm are likely at some places in Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Rathnapura, Kegalle, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
A few showers may occur in Northern province and Anuradhapura district.
Strong gusty winds about (50-60) kmph can be expected across the island, particularly in the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces, Trincomalee and Hambanthota districts and in the western slopes of the central hills.
Marine weather forecast alerts naval and fishing communities not to venture into sea area over north Andaman sea areas until 14th October due to the deep depression formed over west-central bay of Bengal sea area.
The Met Dept informs the fishermen that it will be dangerous to venture into the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambanthota until 14th October.
