Investigations into the violence underway

Investigations into the violence that occurred in the Northwestern Province and in Minuwangoda area are underway and intelligence personnel are also probing into find out the perpetrators and those behind them. Those who are wanted by the Police in connection the violence can surrender to the Police or to the courts, said so the Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara at a media briefing at the Media Centre in Kollupitiya on Thursday (16 May).

Tri Forces and Police personnel have been deployed to prove security and no curfew will be imposed today (16). Further, Police will take action to mention about the arrest if any suspect, arrested in connection with the violence requests for a Police report in the future, for employment or any other purpose. In addition, the Police will also take measures to inform the workplaces of these suspects about their involvement in the violent acts, the Police Spokesman further said.

An individual who is suspected to have close links with the Easter Sunday bombing terror group has been taken into custody on Wednesday (15). The suspect named Mohamed Rizwan is a resident of Mabole in Wattala.

Like in previous years, measures will be taken to provide maximum security to Vesak celebrations this year as well. Police personnel will be deployed to assist the people visiting Colombo and other cities and also to regulate traffic.
