Spells of showers expected in several areas – Met Department

The Meteorology Department’s weather report today (22 Oct) said showers will take place at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts.

Further, the report says strong gusty winds about 50kmph can be expected in North-Central and North-Western provinces and also in Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Matara and Hambantota Districts and in the western slopes of the central hills.

In its marine weather report the Met. Department indicates that few showers will occur in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds will be Westerly to South-Westerly in the sea areas around the island and the wind speed will be about 30-40 kmph.

Marine weather report also says wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph in the seas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and the wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph in the seas extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar.

According to the state of sea, the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota could be rough occasionally and other sea areas around the island will be moderate.
