SLINEX - 2020 enhances maritime interoperability
October 22, 2020The annual bilateral Naval exercise conducted between both Sri Lanka Navy and Indian Navy also titled as ‘SLINEX’ (Sri Lanka India Naval Exercise), concluded successfully yesterday (Oct 21).
This year’s exercise was conducted from 19 to 21 October off the Eastern Coast of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) ‘Gajabahu’ and SLNS ‘Sayura’ representing the SLN side, participated in the exercise in collaboration with the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kamorta and INS Kiltan which also equipped with on-board helicopters to synergize the training.
SLINEX - 2020 was one of the finest platforms in exchanging best practices and procedures for future joint naval operations.
It also strengthens the maritime interconnectedness and mutual understanding between both the Navies,
The exercise involved with Cross Deck Flying by an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) on-board INS Kiltan with SLNS Gajabahu, Search and Rescue (SAR) at sea, surface and anti-air exercises including weapon firing, seamanship evolutions and a series of manoeuvres by ships in formation was all-inclusive.
According to SLN, the entire exercise has been carried out at sea, in a non-contact atmosphere, giving concerns to COVID – 19 pandemic.
Last year’s exercise was conducted at the Vishakhapatnam, India in September 2019 and this was the 8th edition of the annual exercise SLINEX.
