Met Dept alerts on showers or thundershowers in several areas

The Meteorology Department’s weather report today (Oct 30) said showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Uva, Eastern and North-Central provinces and in Hambantota, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts after 2.00pm.

Further, the report says, fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places, particularly in Uva province and in Trincomalee and Ampara districts.

Therefore, the general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

In its marine weather report the Met. Department forecasts that showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Trincomalee   to Pottuvil via Batticaloa in the evening or night.

Winds will be North-westerly to westerly in the sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be variable in direction over the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

Marine weather report also says the sea areas around the island are slight to moderate.
