Preserving Archeological Sites

Ministry of Defence is extending the supportive hands to maintain the standards of sacred places of historical value to protect and safeguard them for the future. Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne is the Chairperson of the Presidential Task Force for Archaeological Heritage Management in the Eastern Province.

Restoration and conservation of dilapidated Neelagiri Stupa in Lahugala will be the next event to commence in the future.

He expressed these remarks during an event organized at the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya on 29 Oct to unveil a Statue of Lord Buddha, which is intended to be transferred to the Thissa Rajamaha Viharaya in Palali, Jaffna, for installation and veneration.

Further, SL Civil Defence Forces started the restoration of Deegavapi Maha Stupa on 23 October.
