Injured fisherman brought ashore by Navy
July 12, 2019A severely injured fisherman was brought ashore for treatment by the Navy on Thursday (11 July). According to Navy media, the fisherman had ventured out to sea for fishing onboard the multiday fishing trawler "Thanuja Duwa III from Galle, last week (05). He had sustained injuries while attempting to board another boat at sea.
Navy authorities had promptly dispatched a Fast Attack Craft (FAC) attached to the Southern Naval Command for the rescue mission upon information provided by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. The patient was transferred to the Navy's FAC about 121 nautical miles off Hambantota and brought to the Hambantota harbor where he was hurriedly rushed to the General Hospital there. Unfortunately, the doctors had pronounced that the patient had succumbed to his injuries.
