Met Dept alerts on showers or thundershowers in several areas

The Meteorology Department’s weather report today (Nov 07) said showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the evening or night.

Further, the report says, fairly heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places.

Therefore, the general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

A few showers will occur in the coastal areas of Eastern and Northern provinces in the morning too, the report added while stating that misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

In its marine weather report the Met. Department forecasts that showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Western, Eastern, Northern and north-western sea areas of the island in the evening or night. sea areas extending from Trincomalee   to Pottuvil via Batticaloa in the evening or night.

Winds will be North-easterly or variable in the sea areas around the island. Winds speed will be (10-20) kmph.

Marine weather report also says the sea areas around the island will be slight. Sea areas can be fairly rough during thundershowers.
