Quarantine curfew would be strictly enforced in areas isolated

The quarantine curfew imposed in the Western Province (WP) and several other areas were lifted today morning (Nov 9).

However, authorities have decided to isolate 25 Police areas in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle and Kurunegala Districts in addition to the Municipal Council area of Kurunegala and the GS division of Wekada West in Panadura.

Meanwhile Government Information Department today evening announced that isolation orders were lifted in all the areas in Kurunegala Municipal area except Ilippugedara and Kadaveediya Grama Niladhari Divisions.

Further, isolation orders were lifted in all the areas in Kuliyapitiya Police Division except Galagedara, Hammalawa and Ihala Kalugomuwa Grama Niladhari Divisions.

Kandana and Mahabage Police Division areas were designated as isolated areas.

According to Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana, the quarantine curfew rules will be enforced strictly in isolated areas.

Vehicles would be permitted to travel through isolated areas, but, they will not be allowed to stop and either dropping or picking of passengers from these isolated areas is also not allowed, Police Spokesman said.

A total of 63,921 individuals have left for homes on successful completion of quarantine process and 2,409 persons are still in quarantine in 27 tri service-managed quarantine centres, said National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

With the conduct of 10,632 PCR tests yesterday, (8) the total number of PCR tests conducted in the country stood at 602,850.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, the 510 locally reported infected persons have increased the total of Coronavirus count in the island to 13,929 today (9)

The number of Minuwangoda apparel factory cluster stands at 10,451where as 1,041 of them are factory employees.

According to NOCPCO,  562 coronavirus patients recovered were discharged from hospitals.
