Army Hospital receives Biological Safety Cabinet worth of Rs 2 mn

The Colombo Army Hospital in Narahenpita was gifted with a Biological Safety Cabinet worth about Rs 2 million, yesterday (Nov 10).

This Biological Safety Cabinet is designed to protect the operator, laboratory environment and samples from being exposed to the infective aerosol produced when the sample is with bacteria strains, diagnostic material, and other infective subjects.

It provides the operators with a more comfortable and safer working condition and is widely used in hospitals.

Currently, the Army PCR laboratory performs about 500 PCR tests per day.

The Dayaka Sabha of the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya in collaboration with the 'Bauddahaya' TV channel made the donation.

Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva received the donation.

Ven Boralande Vajirangna Thero, Chief incumbent of the 'Sambodhi' Viharaya and Chairman, 'Bauddhaya 'TV, Chairman, Dayake Sabha, Dr Harsha Alles, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Maj. Gen. (Dr) Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General Army Health Services, Brig. Krishantha Fernando, Director Maintenance for Army Hospitals, Brig. Wajira Kariyawasam, Military Spokesman and Director Media at Army HQ, Brig. Chandana Wickramasinghe, Officers and a few Other Ranks were present at the occasion.
