SLN busts 800 kilos of dried turmeric in Kalpitiya
November 13, 2020Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed six suspects and 800 kilos of dried turmeric loaded in two dinghy boats along with a light vehicle, at the Daluwa beach in Kalpitiya yesterday (Nov 12).
According to SLN, the racketeers have packed the haul of dried turmeric in separately filled 32 delivery sacks.
The arrest was made by an operation led by the North-Western Naval Command and the SLN reveals, four individuals among the suspects had smuggled the consignment into the island while the other two persons were waiting at the shore to transfer them by the light vehicle.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya aged between 19 to 43 years.
Suspects along with the seized turmeric, their boat and the light vehicle were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward legal proceedings.
