Army cultivates Paddy in a 10-acre paddy field in Seruwawila
November 14, 2020In support of the Nation-building process, the Army’s 22nd Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops in Seruwawila, Kantale recently commenced sowing of egg paddy in a ten-acre field, remained unattended for a long time.
The marshy fields, owned by the Seruwawila Raja Maha Viharaya are thus converted by those troops into a big paddy field patch on the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 22 Division, Maj. Gen. Channa Weerasuriya at the request of the temple's incumbent thero.
The project coincides with the Army Chief's 'Thuru Mithuru - Nawa Ratak' programme as one of the 'Nation-building' tasks of the 22 VIR Battalion, commanded by the Commanding Officer of Lt. Col. S. Ramanayake.
The Chief Incumbent of Seruwawila Temple, GOC, 22 Division, 222 Brigade Commander, the Commanding Officer of the 22 VIR Battalion, Officers, Other Rank, state officials and villagers in the area attended the sowing ceremony.
