World War Heroes remembered on the ‘Poppy Flowers Day’

The ‘Poppy Day’ ceremony, organized by the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) was held yesterday (15) at the Colombo Vihara Maha Devi Park cenotaph.

A brief ceremony was held with the presence of a limited gathering due to COVID-19 pandemic health guidelines and regulations.

The Day also known as ‘Armed Forces’ Remembrance Day’, remembers the unsung heroes in World Wars I & II.

Next of kin of those dead ones placed the ‘Poppy’ wreath to the cenotaph and paid tribute to the dead heroes and their memory in accordance with military traditions.

President of the SLESA and Chairman of the Armed Forces’ Remembrance Day, Poppy Commemoration and Cenotaph Development Committee Maj. Gen. (Retd) Upul Perera, General Secretary of the SLESA, Lt. Col. (Retd) Ajith Siyambalapitiya, Retired Senior Tri Service Officers and Other Ranks, War veterans, serving Senior Officers, Tri Service Officers and other invitees attended the ceremony.
