Greetings to SL contingent leaving for UN mission

The initial group of the Sri Lankan Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) Contingent and annual changing of personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) 05th  Aviation Contingent set for United Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in South Sudan’s (UNMISS), received warm wishes at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (17).

The departing contingent which would be commanded by Col. Roshan Jayamanna was comprised four each medical specialists and medical officers including a dentist, commanding officer, seven administrative officers, 41 SLAMC and nine other ranks representing Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Corps of Engineer Service and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, SLA said.

The SLAF, 52 personnel comprise of 14 Officers and 38 Airmen and Group Captain Duleep Hewawitharana will lead this contingent as the Contingent Commander, SLAF said.

The following team would be departed on Dec 9, 2020 once the remaining troops of the 6th contingent reach their home on Dec 8.

Sri Lanka which is recognized as a troop contributing country by the UN, has been praised for her role and contribution to the African continent, according to the UN sources, SLA said.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva, Senior Officials of SLA and SLAF were also present at the occasion.
