November 18, 2020

The Army’s  Security Force Headquarters-East (SFHQ-East) planted 100,000 seedlings of rare species in the Eastern Province within a single day as the prevailing rainy season conveniently offers a healthy environment to succeed the campaign.

The Army stated that the Forest Department allocated state-owned forest areas for the campaign and further  provided 100,000 indigenous saplings including Mee, Kumbuk, Tamarind, Margosa, Teak, Mahogany.

Under the direction of SFHQ-East Commander Maj. Gen. Chinthaka Gamage, Army troops under 22 Div, 23 Div, 24 Div and the Forward Maintenance Area-East deployed in Trincomalee, Punani and Ampara   joined the project on November 13.

The troops in the respective areas would continue the post-care project to protect these plants.

All General Officers Commanding in Divisions (Div), Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers, Civil authorities and a representative gathering of All Ranks joined the task while adhering to COVID 19 health guidelines.

SFHQ-East plans to launch the 2nd reforestation drive shortly.
