Pirith chanting at Independent Square for 21 days invokes blessings for all

A pirith chanting ceremony attended by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa began at the Independent Square in Colombo, yesterday evening (18) and pirith chanting  will continue for 21 days.

Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne also attended the inaugural session of ‘Rathana Suthra’ chanting ceremony organized to invoke blessings on the President, the Prime Minister, the Parliamentarians,  virus infected persons, frontline healthcare personnel, whole Sri Lankans and the entire world to get rid of the spreading pandemic situation.

The Rathana Suthra, Gini Piritha and Jaya Piritha are chanted by  the Venerable maha sanga at the Independent Square during 24 hours of the day continuously for 21 days from last evening.

The event was attended by Tri-services Commanders, acting IGP Police, senior officials from Tri-services, Police and Civil Security Department and other ranks.

Rathana Suthra chanting as a forceful protective measure has been used to eliminate evil spirits and to protect the society from evil influences and pestilences since the past.

Venerable Maha Sanga had  chanted pirith in such circumstances as practiced in the city of Vishala in India to eliminate disease and famine.
