28th death anniversary of 'Hasalaka Gamini' commemorated

The 28th death anniversary commemoration of Corporal Gamini Kularathne of 6th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) was held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Tourism in Colombo 3, today (11 July 2019). The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Speaker Hon. Karu Jayasuriya.

Minister of Media and Acting Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc were present at the occasion.

The day's proceedings commenced with the observing of a moment of silence in memory of the War Heroes and victims of the Easter Sunday bombing. The messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read soon after the religious observances.

Corporal Gamini Kularathne popularly known as 'Hasalaka Gamini' sacrificed his life in a battle during the terrorist on July 14, 1991. His selfless act of bravery saved the lives of hundreds of soldiers entrapped in the Elephant Pass Camp. Corporal Kularathne was awarded with the highest military decoration, the 'Parama Weera Vibhushanaya', (PWV) for his act of bravery.

Religious dignitaries, Ministers Hon. John Amarathunga, Hon. Vijith Vijithamuni Soysa, State Minister Hon. Ranjith Aluvihare, mother of Hasalaka Gamini Mrs. Juliet, senior state officials and members of the late Corporal were also present at the occasion.
