Two new ministries gazetted
November 23, 2020An Extraordinary Gazette establishing two new ministries has been issued. Accordingly, ‘Ministry of Public Security’ and ‘Ministry of Technology’ will be the newly Gazetted two ministries.
The gazette notification issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa dated Nov 20, 2020 illustrates the scope of duties of the new ministries.
The Public Security Ministry has been established to create a liveable, peaceful and free environment while ensuring public security and to maintain law and order in the country.
Accordingly, Sri Lanka Police, Civil Security Department, National Police Academy and Department of Multi-Purpose Development Task Force have been assigned to this ministry.
The Technology Ministry has been established to institute digital governance services while coordinating national information technology and international electronic networks to effectively manage the health, education, welfare, public services and business sector in the country.
Accordingly, ten institutions have been brought under the purview including Persons Registration Department, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Standards Institution and Sri Lanka Telecom.
