SLACDRT’s trainees demonstrated their readiness for disasters
November 23, 2020The Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training (SLACDRT) showcased its trainees’ multi-skilled readiness for disasters on completion of the 40 day-long disaster management training course, yesterday (Nov 22) at Kotmale.
They conducted the 'Exercise Lending Hand' through simulated worst-case scenarios in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva and a large gathering.
The Exercise largely focused on application of principles and theories of disaster responses and management on rescue operations.
SLACDRT so far trained 77 Army Officers and 1221 other ranks. In addition, it has provided training to batches of the Navy, Air Force, STF, Policemen, university undergraduates and students following Masters Degree.
The disaster management training course has been designed to practice general search and rescue missions, water rescue missions and confined rescue missions and operational aspects while imparting knowledge on UN standards for conduct of the camp management systems in the event of disasters.
A large gathering of Senior Officers, Director General General Staff , Director General Operations, Director General Training, Commander, Security Forces–Central, General Officer Commanding 58 Division, Directors at Army HO, Commandant SLACDRT, Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion.
