India’s National Security Adviser meets Defence Secretary
November 27, 2020India’s National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval paid a courtesy call on Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, today (Nov 27).
The Defence Secretary held a discussion with the visiting Indian National Security Adviser Doval on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance during the meeting.
Both officials further discussed on a collaborative mechanism to enhance maritime cooperation, intelligence sharing, capacity building within the region, avenues to curb drug smuggling and means of responding to natural calamities during the session.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Gunaratne extended his gratitude for the support extended by the Indian authorities to douse the fire triggered on board MT New Diamond recently.
Ajit Doval arrived in Colombo to participate at the 4th National Security Adviser Level Trilateral Meeting on Maritime Security Cooperation scheduled to be held on Nov 28 between India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
He is the founder Director of Vivekanada International Foundation (VIF), a leading think-tank in New Delhi, focusing on issues pertaining to ‘National Security and Strategic Studies’.
Ajit Doval has been awarded the Kirti Chakra in 1989, one of the highest Defence gallantry awards in India.
He is the National Security Adviser to the Indian Prime Minister since 30 May 2014.
Following the bilateral discussion, mementos were exchanged to mark the occasion.
