Cyclone ‘Burevi’ to gradually reduce today- Met. Dept.

The Meteorological Department’s statement issued at noon today (December 03) stated the cyclonic storm ‘BUREVI’ was located closer to the coastal area  between Mannar and Pooneryn and it is gradually moving away from the island.

This Cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph can be increased up to 90 kmph at times, Met. Dept. confirmed.

The report further says showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee district.

Several spells of showers may occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the   sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai until tomorrow morning.

Fishermen are advised to be vigilant in other sea areas.

Intermittent showers or thundershowers will occur in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai. Very heavy showers can be expected some places in the above sea areas. Showers will occur at times elsewhere.

The sea areas extending from Colombo to   Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankesanthurai can be very rough or high at times. The other sea areas can be rough or very rough at times.

There is a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to   Kankasanthurei via Puttalam may experience surges due to the effect of swell waves, having (2.0-3.0) m height Met. Dept. added.
