SL Army and Navy extend assistance to public affected by cyclone ‘Burevi’
December 05, 2020The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) are currently initiating all the measures to assist people in Northern and North Central provinces affected by the cyclone entered the country on 02 Dec.
The SLA is extending assistance to communities affected in the areas under Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ) of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullattivu while supplying dry and cooked meals and other facilities.
Meantime, the SLN Northern Naval Command responded to the sudden flooding situation on the Punkudutivu Island and relocated 50 distressed families from the Island in four locations on 03 Dec, the SLN said.
Further, affected communities were also provided cooked-meals, dry ration, sanitary and medical facilities by the SLN, adhering to COVID -19 preventive guidelines.
Moreover, the North Central Naval Command today (04 Dec) assisted in distributing aid made available by Kilinochchi Divisional Secretariat and Kilinochchi Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to 86 fishermen and their family members stranded on the Iranativu Island as a result of the storm.
In the meantime, four Navy relief teams in Anuradhapura and four more relief teams at Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Pussadewa in Vankalai, Mannar, and SLNS Pandukabaya in Punewa have been kept on standby to respond to possible future developments.
Apart from that, the SLN, in collaboration with the DMC, is constantly on the lookout for relief efforts in the event of any eventuality, the SLN also said.
