Secretary Defence graces 51st Bangladesh Armed Forces Day Ceremony
November 22, 2022Defence Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne graced the 51st Bangladesh Armed Forces Day ceremony as the Chief Guest at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo last evening (Nov 21).
The ceremony was hosted by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka HE Tareq Md Ariful Islam.
The Bangladesh Armed Forces Day which is celebrated on November 21st marks a milestone of reaching the 51st anniversary this year.
Gen. Gunaratne delivering the keynote address stated that Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 is one of the landmark events in the history of freedom movements in the world and the peace loving people of the South Asian region consider it as an example of fortitude, bravery, courage and patriotism of the people and the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
The Defence Secretary also underlined the significance of the cordial and healthy relationship maintained between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka throughout the history in many spheres including Defence.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner presented a memento to the Defence Secretary during the occasion.
Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Air Force Commanders, members of the diplomatic corps and Senior Officers of the Tri-Services of Sri Lanka were present at the event.
