Jaffna House Construction by Troops for Civilians in Full Swing: One More Warmed
November 27, 2022Giving a further stimulant to the ongoing house construction project of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) for deserving civilians, 551 Infantry Brigade troops of the 55 Division erected one more new house for a needy family in the general area of Puloly-West Point Pedro and vested it in the beneficiaries during a ceremony on Wednesday (23), headed by Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.
The financial assistance to the community-oriented project was provided by the philanthropist, Mrs. Sheila Emmanuel through the coordination of Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retired) in response to a request of the SFHQ-J.
Skillful Army troops, attached to the 551 Brigade provided manpower as well as technical and engineering expertise for construction of the house under the supervision of the 551 Infantry Brigade Commander. The beneficiary was picked up in consultation with Grama Seva officials in the area. The General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne and the 551 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe closely supervised the project until its completion within a few weeks.
The beneficiary, Mrs Jayapuran Nandani, a widow with children received the keys from the day’s Chief Guest after simple Hindu religious rites were performed during the warming ceremony, attended by Mr Joshep Iruthayarajah, Mayor of Point Pedro, Mr Charles Ariyakumar, Chairman, Point Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr Alvaipillai Siri, Divisional Secretary for Point Pedro, state officials, relatives of the beneficiary, Officers and Other Ranks who contributed to the construction, together with the Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigadier General Staff of the Security Forces Headquarters -Jaffna and several others.
