5 (V) MIR Troops Erect New Home for Needy Family with Donor’s Support
December 12, 2022The 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) troops serving the 661 Infantry Brigade of the 66 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-Mullaittivu with sponsorship provided by a donor who wished to remain anonymous built a new home for a needy family without a proper shelter in Sellipuram village of the Kollakarachchi Grama Seva Division and vested it in the beneficiaries on 3 December 2022.
Guided by Major General Janaka Priyadharshana, General Officer Commanding of the 66 Infantry Division, 5 (V) MIR troops attached to the 661 Infantry Brigade constructed the new house using their technical expertise and manpower after the donor volunteered to provide the resources to the Army for its erection.
The Army troops in the North are currently engaged in a multitude of community-oriented projects while giving priority for construction of homes for the poor harnessing the support of donors who have placed the full confidence in the Army and its capacity for such projects.
A brief ceremony amidst Hindu religious observances handed over the keys to the recipient, Mr Anojan and members of his family.
The General Officer Commanding of the 66 Infantry Division as the Chief Guest of the event gave them the keys and a couple of essentials for the house.
State officials, Grama Seva official, Brigadier Nalin Seneviratne, 661 Infantry Brigade Commander, invitees and residents of the area attended the day’s inaugural ceremony.
