Defence Secretary looks into the needs of ‘SERRIC’
December 15, 2022Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne made an inspection visit to the Senehasa Education Resource Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) situated at Matha Road, Manning Town in Colombo, today (12).
SERRIC is an institution established under the purview of the Defence Ministry with the prime purpose of caring and supporting the needs, dreams and aspirations of children of tri forces, Police and Civil Security Department families’ those with special needs.
Gen. Gunaratne inquired into the progress, current activities and upcoming events at a meeting he chaired during the visit. Accordingly, Supervising Officer of the SERRIC Sonia Kottegoda and Commandant Brigadier DK Aludeniya briefed the development during the meeting.
A symbolic dancing event organized by the children was also displayed and afterwards gifts were distributed among them.
While special care and attention is given to the children with disabilities and impairments, SERRIC is an information hub to learn and acquire knowledge in child development.
Identifying, assessing innate abilities, strengths and weaknesses of such children, providing clinical support, parental guidance and counselling, promote research for the development of children with pre-vocational training unique to the individual are some of its objectives.
Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Chithrani Gunaratne, Chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit Janaki Liyanage and Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit Charmini Pathirana were also present during the visit.
