New HQ building of Commando Regiment declared open by Defence Secretary

The new Headquarters building of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment was inaugurated by Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne at the Commando Regiment Centre in Ganemulla today (19 Dec).
 
Attending the ceremony as the Chief Guest, Gen. Gunaratne was received by the Colonel of the Regiment – Commando Maj. Gen. Crishantha Gnanaratne and Centre Commandant Brig. Kamal Dharmawardena Bodhimaluwa upon his arrival at the venue this morning.

The Chief Guest was accompanied to the new building in a traditional welcome procession by a ‘Magul Bera’ troupe.

Gen. Gunaratne amidst the chanting of ‘Pirith’ by the Maha Sangha ceremonial unveiled a plaque and declared open the new building.

Subsequently, Gen. Gunaratne undertook an inspection visit of the new facility. He also planted a sapling in the Regiment’s precinct to mark his visit.

Mementos were also exchanged between the Defence Secretary and the Colonel of the Regiment during the occasion.
   
Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Shavendra Silva, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage, Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Channa Weerasuriya, senior Army officers and large number of Other Ranks were also present at the occasion.
